Delft to Den Haag
November 14, 2020
Just missed my train. The next one is in 14 minutes. It’s okay, I can still make it to my eye exam.
I’m on the platform. My glasses are fogging from the mask. I’m wearing too many layers and it’s really hot. The intercom comes on. The speaker says something in Dutch and then in English. He says face masks are mandatory and please keep your distance.
To the left of me above, is a sign that shows you the next train. There’s a quite a few people waiting. Mostly young. All wearing masks. Some have black masks, some have medical masks.
More people are coming down from the escalators. A guy with shoulder length hair enters the platform without a mask. He has a green shopping bag. He’s wearing a stripe sweater and khakis. He has a beard. He’s walking down the platform now.
An older couple is on the platform now. The man is wearing a mask and the woman isn’t. She’s wearing an animal print knee-length coat with black knee-length boots. She’s holding a pink bag. They’re talking with a younger woman, maybe her daughter?
The train to Rotterdam comes in on platform 2. Annnd it leaves, as it should. Sounds like it’s stopping in Rotterdam Centraal and Breda according to the intercom.
There’s a guy standing diagonally in front of me. Black mask, red jacket, copper colored backpack, faded blue jeans and white shoes. His jeans are folded up so you can see his white socks. He has dirty blonde hair, he’s probably Dutch. He’s looking at this phone like most people here, including me.
The train I’m getting on is pulling up now. I’m on the train sitting in a 4-seat section. Beyond me is 2 men and a dog. I didn’t know you could bring your dog on the train. They’re sitting together and eating. They’re speaking Dutch.
In the seats to the right of me is a guy wearing a chin diaper. He’s looking at his phone. His black backpack is next to him and he looks like he’s relaxing at home watching TV.
We pass industrial buildings. A canal. Residential. Some sort of tower. It’s Sunny. Personal greenhouses. A bridge. Fields. A soccer field. The freeway.
These seats are not cloth, thank goodness. It’s one of the newer trains.
We pass tall buildings. A tunnel. Residential. Graffiti. Under a bridge. A forest. Fields.
My stop is in 3 minutes at Den Haag HS.
