I can't use the em dash anymore
The em dash has somehow become an enemy of humans. It’s the thing people look for when they’re trying to decide whether something was written by AI.
I like the em dash. I’ve been using it since way before AI, and so has a lot of other people. Back when I did graphic design, the em dash always worked well in layouts. It’s helpful, it looks great, and it helps me format my sentences better.
But for now, it seems I have to limit my use of it. Goodbye, em dash — for now. Hopefully this all blows over, people pick a new enemy, and I can get back to using it the way I want to.
