If I was in that position...
It’s something I hear a lot when we’re judging other people’s decisions, life choices, or whatever. I say it myself. Sometimes it’s justified, but if you dig deeper, the logic falls apart.
When we say "If I were in that position," we are usually imagining our current selves, with all our current resources, experiences, and clarity.
But if you were truly in that position, you wouldn't have your own guidance to help you make a better choice. You would have their history, their limitations, and their resources (or lack of). If you were actually in their position, you might just end up in the exact same spot.
