I'm here on terrace. My hands are too cold to write. My clothes too stuffy to move freely. It's busy here. A lot of people walking and biking by. Sometimes they look our way but not exactly at us. They look at the restaurant. What are they curious about? Jacoline is to my left. Laptop on lap, pecking away. She seems really focused. She's bundled up also. I wonder what she's typing? She's wearing mostly dark colors but has a bright bag. I like the contrast.
The rain has stopped, there's more people out now. Across the street — someone coughed to the left of us, bad time to cough in public, causes suspicion — are two ladies — three people are talking, the man has a dog, it's wearing a harness that says "polite" on it. The man was walking his dog — something dropped — the man was not walking his dog. He's sitting on the terrace across the street. Back to the two ladies, they're sitting across from us. They're wearing walking shoes, chatting, and laughing. Maybe they're old friends?
The man with the dog moved next to us us now with his friends.
Jacoline is still pecking away on her laptop. I wonder if she's comfortable. She's watching the dog from her angle, it's right next to her.
The man feeds his dog. Two people walks past with masks. Jacoline laughs at something. I look over. The man is trying to give her something. She says "animal prints". She says something to the man in Dutch. He smiles.
The two ladies in front of us leaves. Two people takes their spots.
A man bikes past and waves at the man next to us. He seems to know a lot of people in Delft.
Two people drive by in a golf cart looking vehicle. The waiter plays with the man's dog. She tells it to sit and it obeys. She gives it a treat. The man calls it back and it returns to him.
Jacoline is smiling. Having the dog around lightens the mood. Someone else walks past with a mask. Two people walk by. A man and a woman. The woman is dressed in all black with dyed red hair and a unicorn keychain. One of the waiters has rainbow socks.
The two guys in front of us are looking at the menu. One of them films the area with a phone. Do they live here? Are they students? Do they go to TuDelft?
The trees are still green. Some leaves are starting to turn yellow. I hear the sound of drums.
Jacoline talks to the man again in Dutch. The waiter gives the dog a treat. Jacoline stopped typing. She pets the dog. She's having a conversation with the man. He strokes his mustache as he's talking and bites his fingernails. He asks her if she's from Delft. She tells him no, Rotterdam. His friend gets up, he's wearing a leather jacket. He walks into the cafe.
Jacoline is wearing a maroon coat with a matching scarf. Silver earrings. Gray socks. Black boots. Navy blue pants. Gold bracelet.
There's a bee on my plate. It wants apple pie.
Jacoline and the man are talking. He's very animated. His friend looks at Jacoline. The man is wearing a down jacket. Blue eyes. Clean cut haircut. Petting his dog. More people wave at him. He calls out to someone else and they say hi.
The two guys in front of us across the street got apple pies. It's getting windy.
There's a lot going on around us. I want to write about everything but my fingers can't keep up. It's amazing how much detail you notice if you just sit and observe without judgement.
