Objects evoke memories

I consider myself a minimalist. First by necessity, and now by habit. I try to be intentional with what I buy and hardly have any collections. I keep things for as long as I can and have no problem throwing things away.

But I've realized two things:

  1. Objects evoke memories and stories. They remind you of people, times, and places. They can remind you of who you used to be and how much you've changed. They remind you of stories about loved ones who has passed away.
  2. I'm a digital hoarder. I felt proud about being a natural minimalist, but I hoard digital things. I keep things when they don't seem to matter anymore, like designs I made when I was 12 (I'm in my 30s now). And I've realized that I keep those things because of #1.

Here are some graphics I made around 11 to 14 years old with bootleg Photoshop. They remind me of who I used to be when I first started participating on the web.

I was obsessed with gifs (still am). I remember making these pixel by pixel.
