The unexpected life lessons found in a drawing class

In university, I had a drawing class that taught me life lessons I never knew I could get from a drawing class.

One day I had missed an assignment because I felt stuck. I couldn't draw and I sucked at it. My mindset was holding me back.

I explained this to the professor and he helped me move forward.

He picked objects at random, placed them in front of me, and gave me 30 seconds to draw each one. Those drawings ended up being some of my favorites from the entire semester.

At the end of the class, he made us pick our favorite drawing, the one we felt the most attached to.

Then he told us to rip it up or we would fail the class.

Everyone hesitated but once we got over that attachment, it felt so good to let go.

That class taught me two things:

The professor always pushed us out of our comfort zones, and it's helped me push myself out of my comfort zone for life in general.
